Niagara by day and night from NYC

A coach takes you from Midtown Manhattan to Niagara Falls, New York, for more than five hours at the falls, including the evening when they're lit in colour, then drives you back overnight. Pick it over the 19-hour trip if you want to see the illumination and have more time in the park, and can sleep sitting up.

Niagara Falls Day & Night Tour from NYC

About this experience

The operator isn't named on the listing page, but its terms name Royal City Tours. Coaches leave from 790 7th Ave in Midtown and, if you call ahead to confirm, from 820 31st St in Union City, New Jersey. The listing promises more than five hours at the falls: a guided walk through the state park, Goat Island, Luna Island, Green Island, the Tesla monument and Terrapin Point, free time on Old Falls Street, then the falls lit up after dark. Departure times vary by date; guests describe both morning departures and late-night starts.

There are two options: Tour with Maid of The Mist and Tour without Maid Of the Mist. Only the first includes the boat, and only while it runs, which is until November 8, 2026. After that, the boat option makes no sense. The Cave of the Winds isn't included; a guest who wanted it had to skip part of the walk and rush. Fireworks are marked optional and seasonal: in 2026 they ran nightly from May 15 to October 12, then on winter festival and holiday dates. The illumination happens every night all year.

Be clear-eyed about the coach. This listing has the lowest rating of the eleven here (4.1), and almost every complaint is about the bus: hard seats, hot air conditioning, a breakdown, a late pickup. Guests love the guide at the falls. If 14 to 16 hours on a coach worries you, the 19-hour day trip is shorter, and a flight to Buffalo with the Buffalo tour is far gentler.

What guests say

★★★★★

The pick up location is not far from Time Square and easy to find. The bus trip has multiple stops to stretch your legs. At Niagara Falls the guide is knowledgeable and friendly. You have enough time to explore the area.

Niagara Falls were stunning - bus journey was long but there were enough breaks to make it ok - a very convenient way to get from NYC to the falls

Very enriching experience of the Niagara fall despite the limited time at the park. Managed to see various fall up close, Maid of the Mist and even stay till night night where the waterfall lights up in different color.

Brian - the tour guide - was absolutely awesome and he gave a great walking tour of the falls. The Maid of the Mist boat tour was absolutely incredible. The fireworks were a nice way to end the evening.

Only the "Tour with Maid of The Mist" option, and only while the boat runs: the 2026 season ends on November 8. The other option has no boat ticket.

Will I see the fireworks?

Only on scheduled nights. In 2026 the Niagara Falls fireworks ran nightly at 10 p.m. from May 15 to October 12, then on winter festival and holiday dates. The coloured illumination of the falls happens every night.

How long is the bus ride from New York?

About 7 to 8 hours each way with stops roughly every two hours. Guests count 14 to 16 hours on the coach in a 22 to 24 hour trip.

Do I need a passport?

Not for the tour, which stays on the US side. A few guests used free time to walk across the Rainbow Bridge to Canada; that needs a passport. See our NYC day trip guide for the full comparison.
