Boat and Cave with The Daily Trips

A local guide picks up a group of 13 at most from your hotel and spends three hours on the Maid of the Mist, the Cave of the Winds, Goat Island and the Horseshoe Falls overlook. It has a perfect 5.0 rating, and guests credit the guides for it: unhurried, knowledgeable, and happy to take your photo.

Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds Small-Group Tour

About this experience

The Daily Trips runs one of the smallest tours on the US side, capped at 13 guests, and its 5.0 rating across nearly 300 reviews is the best here. A guide picks you up at your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, and guests say they arrive early and call ahead. The tour covers the Maid of the Mist, the Cave of the Winds, Bridal Veil Falls, Goat Island, the Horseshoe Falls overlook at Terrapin Point and the Observation Tower, and drives past the Nikola Tesla monument.

The listing budgets 45 minutes each for the boat and the Cave, including queues, which is about right on a weekday. Guests report the guide steering them to the right deck on the boat (bottom deck going in for the full soaking, top deck on the way back for video) and sorting parking for those who drove. Bring a snack: a tour from 11 to 3 leaves you hungry halfway.

The listing gives the boat season as April 20 to November 5, a bit narrower than the official 2026 dates (April 24 to November 8). It doesn't say what replaces the boat or the Hurricane Deck in winter, so don't book a November date expecting either. One more thing to know: a guest who was rained out had to reschedule rather than get a refund. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before; after that, your date is your date.

What guests say

★★★★★

This felt like such a personalized tour because there were only six of us, ourselves and our 16-year-old teen son and one other family. Pick up arrangements were super easy and the parking he set up was free! [...] Joel had little hints he shared such as holding onto one poncho because it was a little more durable than the one provided for the second part of the tour [...]

Mohammad gave us tips for each of the experiences. The best was where to stand on the boat. We experienced all of the feels from the bottom deck and enjoyed the views on the return from the top deck of the boat. The majority of the passengers were at the top the entire trip.

I would recommend doing booking with Scott. He is retired editor at a local newspaper and he has all history about Niagara Falls, where to eat, places to go. So worth the money

Tips before you book

  • Stand on the bottom deck of the boat going in, the top deck on the way out. The crowd goes straight upstairs.
  • Eat first or bring a snack. A midday tour runs through lunch.
  • The listing says wheelchair accessible, but the Cave of the Winds walkway is mostly stairs. Ask about the lower viewing deck if mobility is an issue.
  • Check the forecast the day before: free cancellation ends 24 hours out, and a rained-out guest was offered a new date, not a refund.
  • October is a sweet spot. Guests report mild days and no crowds.
